OK, here's one for the film score fans - for a while, I've toyed with the idea of running a kick-starter, in order to fund a Jerry Goldsmith re-recording. My reasons for doing this are two-fold:
a) I'm a life-long fan of Goldsmith's work myself, and feel strongly about the necessity to preserve and re-visit his music.
b) The companies that have spent so much, on the wonderful re-recordings that are already available to us, very rarely make a decent profit (if any!) for their efforts (this, I know, is no secret). So, if we're going to request more re-recordings, and if we want to see more of these projects come to fruition, then we're probably going to have to lend a hand (unless someone knows a film-music fan who's also lottery-winner!).
With this in mind, I've come up with a short poll of scores that (for various reasons) would be good candidates for re-recording (admittedly, some of these may not be everyone's first choice, but a decision has had to be made, and you're never going to please everybody, all of the time). If the response to this is positive, then I'm quite happy to launch a kick-starter based on its results......worst case scenario, the necessary funding can't be found and nothing happens......best case scenario, we end up with something very special; a project completely funded by the community of film music fans.
So, here they are:
LIONHEART - one of Goldsmith's best scores, unfortunately marred by some poor performances (to the extent that he overdubbed the majority of brass lines with synthesisers!). This, would be the top-bracket project....but likely to be expensive!
LILIES OF THE FIELD - a beautiful and sensitive score, under-represented in recorded form. Likely to be less expensive than 'Lionheart', due to the size of ensemble.
THRILLER (TV Suites) - some of the composer's most inventive work. Never released in album form. This would be the smallest option, in terms of project size. However, there maybe a very slight issue with copyright permission, as it's never been commercially released.
Please do take a moment to vote, and feel free to share the link...the more feedback, the better!!
