Zajímavá reakce Intrady v diskuzi k In Harm´s Way:

Andy wrote:
...And WOW to the sound, i wonder why (to my ears) some 50 year old recordings sounds better than new ones. So much depth and detail!
This thing sounds incredible. !!!...

One big reason is so many engineers now master music literally for the iPod/mp3/download world rather than anything remotely 'hi-fi'. They 'normalize' (brickwall) the sound into distortion territory in order to get everything as loud as possible, no matter what the realistic levels between the tracks should be. Often the results no longer even sound like real orchestras. And still another reason is that many engineers today insist on squelching every bit of hiss - and commensurately the important overtones and nuances - inherent in older recordings in their misguided attempts to render them as quiet as modern digital recordings, which sadly just renders them inferior to the older ones.

With In Harm's Way we had the wonderful luxury of locating the original unmixed session masters for all of the tracks Goldsmith selected to consider on his album back in 1965. That allowed us to bring out the best in the recordings and avoid the issues as described above. These recordings certainly needed no added reverb or noise reduction whatsoever. They were then and remain today stunning examples of just how good those MGM scoring stage sessions could actually sound.

Proto tolik moderních soundtracků z posledních let zní tak strašně! :(

Actually, re Rambo III, Jerry actually said I could just do whatever I wanted with it since he was already frustrated about the song album. Then, upon bringing over to his house a ref of my finished assembly for his approval, he actually had just one contribution - and I am not making this up - Oh God, Doug. You even put "Dust" on it? Just stick it on the end of "Flaming Village" and maybe it'll get lost in there somewhere.

For those that may not already know, "Dust" is a short electronic cue written for the finale of the helicopter attack on the village Rambo was staying at. I think it's a perfect example of what Jerry referred to as "bottlecap collecting". We helped start that, I suppose. But at least this time he approved of "every bloody note", another comment he made regarding what we were doing. So he wasn't always predictable. :)

Aha, takže takhle to je:

Bob DiMucci (Member):
So--just so I'm understanding this correctly--the "Original 1965 RCA Soundtrack Album" section of the CD is derived from the same source (i.e., newly discovered multi-track original session masters without reverb) as the "Expanded Original Soundtrack" section (less the new material), except arranged in the original LP order. Intrada is saving us the trouble of programming the tracks into the LP sequence.

Yavar Moradi (Member):
Bob, you're roughly correct in that the sources are the same for both programs but it wouldn't have been possible to program the original album from the new chronological presentation because it contained edits of some cues.

Tak jsem z toho jelen.
Intrada ještě minulý týden psala v popisu k In Harm´s Way, že k původnímu albu ještě přidají 3 skladby teď to CD vydali a je tam ten soundtrack dvakrát. Něco mi uniklo?

No, počkám si na nějaké recenze (snad těch 200 kopií do té doby vydrží), jestli bude kvalita zvuku opravdu nějak výrazně lepší.
Jinak se mi totiž jen kvůli dvěma skladbách nechce dávat cca 800 Kč za něco, co už mám :)

BASIC INSTINCT (2-CD SET)
Music Composed and Conducted by Jerry Goldsmith
Limited edition of 2000 units

Crossing legs! Quartet Records and Studio Canal are proud to present the ultimate 2-CD set of Jerry Goldsmith’s Academy Award® nominated noir score for Paul Verhoeven’s classic erotic thriller Basic Instinct (1992), starring Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone.

For his second collaboration with director Paul Verhoeven (after Total Recall), Jerry Goldsmith composed one of his most famous and iconic scores—atmospheric and sensual, elegantly orchestrated, with a memorable main theme reminiscent of Bernard Herrmann.

At the time of the film’s premiere, Varèse Sarabande issued a fabulous 45-minutes CD produced by Goldsmith himself—a masterful presentation of the score’s highlights. Ten years later, Prometheus Records released an expanded version, with much of the music presented in film order, but still missing a pivotal moment and several alternate takes. Now, 23 years later, Quartet Records has finally done justice to this Goldsmith masterpiece. This new release includes all of the music recorded for the film, with correct edits, actual track titles, “An Unending Story” as heard in the film, and alternate takes recorded by Goldsmith for the shorter R-rated version of the film. Also included is the original album produced by the composer, featuring some slightly shorter cues and an alternate ending. All of the music was recorded in London with Goldsmith conducting The National Philharmonic Orchestra.

Both film score and album version have been entirely remixed and remastered from the original digital multi-track tapes by original scoring mixer Bruce Botnick for this edition—the score has, quite simply, never sounded better! Produced by Neil S. Bulk and Bruce Botnick, the album includes in-depth liner notes from film music writer Daniel Schweiger in a lavishly designed 24-page full-color booklet.
